I Think My Car’s Suspension Is Bad

If you suspect that your European car’s suspension is going bad, read the signs of suspension problems below. We here at Eurotech Auto Service & Repair would also be happy to inspect your vehicle’s suspension to see if we can detect any problems. We have experienced technicians and state-of-the-art equipment designed to keep all European automobile suspensions in perfect shape.

Alignment: Pulling to the Side

The most common sign that your vehicle has a problem with its wheel alignment is pulling to the side. You may be driving straight, but your automobile has decided it would rather head to the right or left. Usually, re-adjusting the wheel alignment fixes the problem and you are heading straight again until such time as you turn the steering wheel to change directions.

Shocks/Struts: Feeling the Bumps

A clear sign that your shocks and struts are going bad is feeling the bumps. These suspension parts are designed to absorb road bumps so you always have a comfortable ride in your European automobile. As the parts start to go bad, you will start to notice that your ride is less comfortable and bumpier. Replacing the shocks and struts gives you a smooth ride once again.

Shocks/Struts: Momentum

The shocks and struts also prevent what is called momentum motion. In other words, they won’t allow your European automobile’s body to lurch forward when you stop, lean backward when you accelerate, or tip to the side when you turn around corners. If you are starting to feel this momentum motion, you probably need to replace the shocks and struts underneath your European automobile.

Shocks: Oily Shocks

Another sign that the shocks are going bad is oil. As the shocks age, they will begin to leak the internal fluid that helps them absorb the road bumps. Grab a paper towel and reach up underneath the wheels of your European automobile to dab the shocks to see if there is any oil on them. If there is, you probably are experiencing a bumpy ride and it’s time to change the shocks.

Steering: Difficulty Steering

The steering system is part of your vehicle’s suspension and any difficulty steering your automobile could be a sign of low power steering fluid, a faulty power steering pump, a problem with the steering rods, or another steering system issue. It’s important to have steering issues checked out as soon as possible because controlling your European automobile is crucial to your on-road safety.

Suspension Spring: Sitting Low

Finally, if you have a broken suspension spring, it will not only make a clunking sound when you go over bumps but will also make your car’s body sit lower on that wheel. You may not notice this at first, but anytime your vehicle is resting lower on a wheel, you most likely have a broken suspension spring. You may also have a flat tire or a tire with seriously low air pressure.
