Car Engine Replacement Signs That Cannot Be Avoided

You have our word here at Eurotech Auto Service & Repair that we will do our best to keep your engine healthy so it never needs to be replaced. There is one simple fact, though, that cannot be avoided. Eventually, your engine will die. They only have so many miles in them. Here are signs that your vehicle’s engine is on its way out and is in need of either a rebuild or engine replacement.

Flowing Exhaust Smoke

When we say flowing exhaust smoke, we mean a ton of exhaust smoke. If you think about it, you don’t see your vehicle’s exhaust. If your automobile’s tailpipe has suddenly turned into a smokestack, you’ve got a serious problem underneath the hood. The color of the exhaust smoke can reveal what is burning in excess in your engine. Fuel causes black exhaust, oil creates blue exhaust, and engine coolant makes white exhaust. Any of these things signal severe engine damage.

Knocking Sounds Constantly

Knocking sounds aren’t necessarily the mark of death in your engine unless they are coming from the crankshaft and combustion chamber. Usually, the knocking sound that indicates you’re on the road to a new engine is coming from a broken rod or worn rod bearings. When the rod bearings are worn out, the knocking that you’re hearing is actually the pistons slamming up against the crankshaft wall. This indicates severe engine damage that might not be fixable.

Metal Shavings in the Oil

Metal shavings in your motor oil are definitely a sign of engine death. The shavings are your automotive parts. They have worn down to the point that they are disintegrating into the motor oil as it is circulating through the engine. As you can imagine, nothing is going to last very long under these conditions. In fact, it’s not uncommon for an engine to die completely within hours after the metal shavings are introduced into the motor oil.

Worn Engine That Can’t Produce Power

Finally, as we said at the beginning of this blog post, there will come a time when your engine simply cannot produce any more power because it is too old. Most people replace their cars, but you may want to hang onto yours because it holds a special significance to you. Once the engine has reached the end of its life, dropping a new engine into the automobile will make it like-new once again, and we can do that here at Eurotech Auto Service & Repair, which is the best auto service shop in Fort Myers, FL.
