You Should Have Your European Automobile’s Brakes Inspected Every 12,000 Miles

A brake inspection once a year ensures that your European automobile’s brakes are always reliable. You rely on this crucial safety system more than you realize when you drive your vehicle. Eurotech Auto Service & Repair would be happy to inspect your brakes for you. Bring your European automobile to our shop right away if your brakes are doing any of the following things.

Dashboard Warning Light

You may end up with a warning light illuminated on the dashboard if there is a malfunction in your ABS or brake system. The ABS or Brake light will turn on, respectively. If you want to play it extra safe, have your vehicle towed to our shop if either of these lights turns on.

Leaking Brake Fluid

Leaking brake fluid can cause brown or red spots on the garage floor near the wheels. It’s important to have a brake fluid leak fixed right away to avoid low levels of brake fluid in the system. Low levels of fluid can make it difficult to stop your European automobile.

Noises When You Brake

With the exception of the RPMs slowing down in the engine, you should not hear any other noises when you use your European automobile’s brakes. The action should be silent. You should not hear squealing, scraping, or grinding sounds.

Overheating Brakes

This being said, your brakes will squeal if they are getting too hot. In addition, you will be able to smell hot odors coming from the brakes. When the brakes get too hot, the brake pads and rotors glaze and can no longer generate the friction needed to stop.

Pulling to One Side

Your European automobile might also pull to one side when you apply the brakes if you have a stuck caliper on one of the wheels. This can be avoided by having the calipers replaced every 75,000 miles.

Spongy Brake Pedal

Another sign that your brake system is having problems is a spongy brake pedal. The pedal should resist your foot every time you press down on it. It should also stop 1 1/2 inches from the floorboard.

Vibration When You Brake

Finally, your European automobile should never vibrate when you press down on the brake pedal. If it does, there could be a problem with the surfaces of the rotors. They may need to be recut.

Eurotech Auto Service & Repair in Fort Myers, FL, is here to help, so call us today if your European automobile is having any of the brake problems listed above.
